From resistance to resilience: Addressing bacterial infections and harnessing Phovia in veterinary dermatology

This lecture will discuss the emergence and role of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Pseudintermedius in veterinary dermatology.  Appropriate nomenclature will be presented as well as mechanisms of resistance, but the focus will be on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.  Use of the Phovia system for bacterial infections, as well as other indications will be covered in detail.  There will be an introduction detailing how the Phovia system works with most of the potential uses being presented in a case-based format.

About The Speaker

Dr. David Genovese
BSBA, DVM, DACVD

Dr. Genovese was born and raised in the Chicago area. He graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois in 2010, then completed a small animal rotating internship at the University of Florida in 2011. This was followed by a dermatology residency at the Animal Allergy and Dermatology hospital in Virginia Beach from 2011-2014. Dr. Genovese became board-certified in veterinary dermatology in 2014. Dr. David Genovese moved to Calgary in 2021 along with his wife (also a veterinarian), daughter, son, Chihuahua, and Toy Poodle. A few areas Dr. Genovese finds especially rewarding include the ability to control allergies safely with the use of immunotherapy, as well as managing immune-mediated skin conditions, infectious and parasitic dermatoses, and chronic ear disease. While he enjoys all aspects of veterinary dermatology, Dr. Genovese is particularly grateful for the long-term relationships he is able to develop with pets and their owners.
